Juliet feels closer.
This sketchbook was digitized 25 September 2016.

Description

Many of the drawings in Juliet deploy a faceted shading style and geometric line quality established through hatching. Images of racing and sport comprise frequent subject matter in this book including: the javelin thrower on Juliet 37, cyclists on Juliet 52, sumo wrestler on Juliet 62, ice skater on Juliet 65, or the long jumper on Juliet 200. Parallel to the focus on the figure are experiments with pattern and shape. Juliet holds a sizeable number of infrastructural drawings largely referencing environments from the racing video game Wipeout 3.

Juliet is the first sketchbook with drawings in ink. The thinner ballpoint pen used for these drawings creates a harder quality of line that contrasts with the softer pencil drawings.
