Discussion

This page depicts several groupings of ceramic vessels with two stray drawings of fruit and vegetables drawn in anticipation of the frontispiece illustration for the sketchbook.

The page was probably illustrated in from the top to the bottom, first getting the shape of the vessels consistent and then experimenting with playful arrangements.

Inspiration for the low squat vessels that decorate the page comes from stills in Ray and Charles Eames' 1955 film, Textiles and Ornamental Arts of India[1], reproduced in The Work of Charles and Ray Eames. (1997, Abrhams)[2]
